Bugle is an excellent very versatile evergreen groundcover, suitable for planting under trees, at the front of a shady border or in containers for a sunny position. In spring/summer it forms a dense carpet of rosette-like foliage in deep bronze-purple and short erect spikes of deep blue flowers. The RHS have given it the Award of Garden Merit (AGM).

How to take care of Ajuga reptans Atropurpurea 9 cm

It will tolerate sun or shade and even poor soils, provided there is adequate moisture. Avoid dry gardens. Divide clumps in late autumn or early spring every two years. Propagation is easily done in early spring and sometimes suffer from Powdery mildew. It is unsightly more than harmful, though if left unchecked, will eventually weaken the plants. Spray at first sign of the mildew. Beware in the spring, there will be inevitable slug damage to leaves.
