How to take care of Fig Tree Ficus carica Rouge de Bordeaux
1. Plant the tree in a large pot at least 25cm in diameter. Cover the outlet hole with a pot shard so that water can always drain. Take a mixture of 1/3 sand with 1/3 compost and 1/3 potting soil. Plant so deep that the root ball disappears just below the surface of the soil. Loosen the root ball well before planting so that the roots can spread well. 2. Place the pot in a sunny spot on your patio and water regularly, fertilize in early spring with cow manure pellets on top of the pot and then give Grain Fertilizer NPK 12-10-18 in May and again in July.3. During the winter, you can put the pot and tree away cold in a shed or in a sheltered place against a wall. Cover the pot with an old burlap sack or the like against frost damage to the pot 4. Prune if necessary in February to maintain shape, remember the flower buds will already be visible swollen. You may want to prune around these to preserve flowering and fruiting. Prune plums and other stone fruits such as apricot and peach, etc., only after or during flowering.
