How to force Prepared Hyacinth flowerbulbs Indoors

Best Varieties for indoor forcing are : Delft Blue (blue) - Pink Pearl - hard (pink) - Ostara (purple blue) , Carnegie (brilliant white) and Jan Bos (red) For indoor forcing our bulb size is 16-17 cm circumf. and they are prepared by a temperature treatment. 
How to do it : Plant your Hyacinths around October - November in pots with a diam. of 17 cm and or over, Place some pebbles at the bottom for drainage and fill the planter halfway with potting compost and coarse sand. Plant the Hyacinths in the planter with the smallest tip upwards, fill up with the Soil mix and press down firmly, water well.

Place the planted pot in a dark cold location, this can be under a crate or box outside in a corner of the garden, or you dig out a bed in which the pots fit (edge of pots level with top Soil ) & place a thick layer of peat over it and fill up with the top soil taken out.

Once the sprouts are appox. 6-8 cm tall or when the flower buds are visual, the planters can be taken indoors, clean them with some luke warm water and place the planters in a moderate warm room (16-18 centigrade - 60 F.) such as a bedroom but in bright daylight. Spray the pots daily with a water mister. Once the flowerbuds are visual and the foliage starts to spread, take them into the living room and force them into flower.

This picture shows you when to take the Hyacinths indoor , this stage is just a few days after the pot has been brought into the house ( as you can see the bud of the flower is above the bulb that is essential for a good result!

How to force Tulip flowerbulbs Indoors

Best tulips for indoor forcing are the single early flowering tulips, double early flowering tulips, Triumph tulips and cultivars.

How to do it: Plant your tulips around October in pots with a diam. of 17 cm and or over, place some pebbles at the bottom for drainage and fill the planter halfway with potting compost and coarse sand. Plant the tulips in the planter with the smallest tip upwards, fill up with the Soil mix and press down firmly, water well.

Place the planted pots in a dark cold location, this can be under a crate or box outside in a corner of the garden, or you dig out a bed in which the pots fit (edge of pots level with top Soil ) place a layer of straw over it and fill up with the top Soil taken out. Once the sprouts are appox. 6-8 cm tall and when the flower buds are visual as an oval thickening above the bulbs, the planters can be taken indoors, clean them with some luke warm water and place the planters in a moderate warm room (16-18 centigrade) such as a bedroom, but in bright daylight, spray the pots daily with a water mister. Once the flowerbuds are visual above the stem, taken them into the living room and force them into flower by temperatures between 16 - 20 celcius (58 - 65 F).
