The Blackberry Rubus fruticosus Thornless Chester is a deciduous blackberry producing little white blossoms in late spring which are followed by large, sweet, high quality berries with good flavor. Excellent for fresh eating, jams, jellies, and pies. This plant will thrive in a sunny spot in your garden. The more sun the plant gets, the more fruit you will get. You can use these plants to overgrow a wall, climbing frame, or for creating a hedge. Chester is the most winter hardy of the thornless varieties. This specimen is self-fertile so it doesn’t require another pollinator.

How to take care of Blackberry Chester Thornless

Soak the roots for approx. 2 hrs before planting and water well after planting and for the next few weeks. This hardy deciduous Mûrier Chester sans épines shrub thrives in a sunny sheltered position but will tolerate partial shade. In colder areas, plant Mûrier Chester sans épines near a south-facing wall. Use a well-drained soil enriched with organic matter. They will not tolerate heavy, wet soil. Drought tolerant once established. Mûrier Chester sans épines do well in various soil types. Mûrier Chester sans épines likes to be constantly moist, but not wet. Do not use any stimulants, fertiliser or bonemeal at planting time as such products will 'burn' any new root growth. During the active growing season an occasional feed or a light top dress with a base fertiliser will prove beneficial. Container-grown Mûrier Chester sans épines plants should be brought indoors in extreme winter conditions. Check Mûrier Chester sans épines plants periodically for pests such as aphids, white flies, and mealy bugs. Use a horticultural oil or insecticidal soap to control these pests.
