Large-flowered Phlox Paniculata Mix x 9
Large-flowered Phlox Paniculata Mix x 9
Large-flowered Phlox Paniculata Mix is a lively blend of garden phlox that fills summer borders with generous, fragrant blooms. A lovely choice for adding colour to mixed planting and for cutting fresh stems for the vase.
Location
Best grown outdoors in a sheltered, partly shaded spot, in soil that drains well. Ideal for adding colour and scent through the border where insects are welcome.
Contents
A mixed set of nine bare-root phlox: three ‘Danielle’, three ‘Bright Eyes’ and three red-flowering varieties, giving a varied and colourful display.
Growth habit and size
These are upright, large-flowered border perennials that quickly build into a tall clump, reaching around 100–125 cm when established. Space plants about 45 cm apart to give each one room to develop.
Plant care
Easy to grow in the right place, especially when plants have good airflow. Provide support in spring for the long stems and use a layer of well-rotted compost or manure in early spring to help them along.
Pruning and maintenance
Remove faded flowerheads and trim back to mid-summer to encourage fresh stems and later blooms, while keeping unwanted self-seeding in check. Plants can be lifted and divided in spring or autumn to refresh the clump.
Winter hardiness
Hardy down to –20°C. Supplied as dormant bare-root perennial rootstock, ready to be planted into the garden.

Instructions
Choose a sheltered spot in partial shade with well-drained soil.
Remove large clumps and stones before planting.
Plant the rootstock just below soil level.
Allow enough space between plants for good air circulation.
Avoid watering at night and keep water off the flowerheads; let the foliage dry before evening.
Support taller stems in spring before flowering.
Mulch in early spring with about 5 cm of well-rotted compost or manure.
Deadhead and trim back to mid-summer to encourage more stems and later flowering, and to reduce self-seeding.
Lift and divide in spring or autumn when needed.
