Holly, Ilex Golden King, has pretty dark green, yellow edged, leaves. It blooms with white flowers and reddish brown berries during autumn-winter. This evergreen shrub is pretty and provides colour in winter when it's most welcome. It’s great for adding texture to flower arrangements. It is one of the most popular symbols of Christmas! Do not let the name deceive you. 'Golden King' is actually the female plant, with red berries, if pollinated by a male holly closeby.

How to take care of Ilex altaclerensis Golden King

Plant is well drained soil in a sunny to partially shaded position, make sure that you give this shrub enough room to spread. Water well after planting and for a few weeks afterwards. This compact variety requires little or no pruning but if you have to prune then you can prune in late winter or early spring. Prune out by removing diseased, damaged, crowded shoots and any that are growing in unwanted directions.
