When it comes to flowers we all have our old favourites, which never go out of fashion. We’ve put together this collection of a few garden delights consisting of bulbs and bare root plants that you'll never grow tired of. Delicate and heavenly scented Freesias are among the most popular cut flowers in the world, their intensely sweet fragrance can perfume an entire room. Anemone blanda blooms with delightful brightly coloured daisy-like flowers on lush green fern-like foliage. Ranuncules asiaticus produces beautiful delicate flowers with tightly clustered petals. They’ll quickly create a spectacular display and make ideal cut flowers. Japanese Anemone serenade are amongst the finest, they are most sought after late summer flowering plants, blooming generously with masses of deep pink semi double flowers on tall free- standing branches.

How to take care of Old Fashioned Favourites Garden x 83

Plant according to the instructions printed on each package, tall varieties at the back and small to the front. Bulbs are best planted in groups together. Anemones need soaking prior to planting. Plant in well drained soil, prepare the soil by working in some organic fertiliser pellets around a spade deep. In cold areas, apply a thick mulch cover in winter to protect from frost. In warm areas mulch will help to keep the soil cool and retain moisture. Water well after planting and keep doing so for the first month. Soak the soil rather than watering over the plants to prevent fungal diseases. Apply fertiliser during the growth season by means of an general border fertiliser. In autumn store non hardy summer bulbs in a cool but frost-free place, protect from mice. Replant in spring. Remove dead flower heads regularly from all plants to encourage new and bushy growth. Divide plants every 3-4 years in early spring to avoid overcrowding.

Freesias are not hardy and needs to be lifted from the soil once the first frost arrives. Cut back the foliage and store in a cool but frost-free place. Protect from mice and replant in spring. Depth (arrow pointing down), Spacing ( horizontal arrow), flowering period ( e.g.: v = May) and full grown height ( arrow pointing up).
