How to take care of Tomato Moneymaker

Plant your seeds in a pot about 2cm apart, in a decent multi purpose compost with a top layer of vermiculite. Cover the pot with a clear plastic bag to make a mini greenhouse and stand the pot of a sunny windowsil. They should take just a few days to germinate and the seedlings will be ready to transplant after about 2 weeks. Remove the plastic bag once the seeds have germinated. Gently transplant each seedling into a bigger pot 7.5cm and space the pots so that none of the plants are touching. After another 6 weeks on your windowsill they should be ready to be planted outside, the first flower clusters should be starting to appear at this time. Acclimatise outdoors for a few days before planting them into the ground. They need at least 6 hours of direct sun a day. Select an area where tomato plants or any other vegetables have not been grown for 2 to 3 years. they thrive in deep, loamy and well-drained acid soils. Feed regularily with a tomato feed, following the instructions on the packet. Water the frequently and in early September, pinch out the growing tip of the main shoot. This will stop further fruit developing and allow the fruit already formed to ripen. Keep an eye out for greenfly as they can cause a lot of damage to tomato seedlings.
