This female variety Standard Ilex meserveae, 'Blue Maid' will look fabulous no matter where you choose to put it especially when placed next to a door entrance. It produces abundance of tiny, white flowers in spring that are followed by attractive berries in autumn which is a great contrast against the dark thorny shiny evergreen foliage.
In order to produce fruit Blue Maid needs a male pollinator nearby, preferably from blue holly range such as Blue Prince and Heckenstar.

How to take care of Standard Ilex Blue Maid
Plant in a large planter with drainage holes and place a layer of pebbles in the bottom of the pot to ensure good drainage or it can be planted directly into the ground. It prefers a chalky soil and a sunny well sheltered position. Stake the shrub until it is strong enough to withstand the wind itself. Prune into shape in Feb. - March. During harsh winters you may need to bring pot grown trees indoors to an unheated room until it warms up.
