Thyme is used as culinary herb to flavour meats, soups and stews and for medicinal purposes as an antiseptic. Thyme retains its flavour on drying better than many other herbs. Plant March- April in a progator or April- June in a seedbed outdoors; prick out once by transferring partially developed seedlings to larger pots before their roots become too entwined and plant out later.

How to take care of Thyme Winter

Thyme likes a well-drained light soil, it should not be too rich in nutrients which will only make the plant 'leggy' and loose its compact shape. Plant in full sun. Start seeds off in small pots indoors in normal potting compost, only cover them very lightly with the compost, place pots in a warm location. Plant seedlings outdoors after frosts. They have a spread of about 30 cm apart. Harvest only very, lightly in the first year.
