Agastache Black Adder also known as Giant Hyssop are ideal plants for containers as well as for the back of borders. In summer they produce tall spikes with liquorice-scented fresh dark green leaves topped with whorls of tiny long-lasting purple-blue blooms similar to a bottlebrush. Both the flowers and leaves are edible and fun to sprinkle into salads. Can be used as a gap-filler in herb gardens or in sunny, dry places.

How to take care of Agastache Black Adder

Agastache Black Adder requires good drainage. Agastache Black Adder will perform poorly and may not survive winter in hard clay soils that retain moisture. Agastache Black Adder tolerate heat and some dry soils once established. Provide full sun to light shade and dry to medium soil. Newly planted Agastache Black Adder need winter protection. Mulches will not only protect Agastache Black Adder but help to avoid onset of rot. Removing faded blooms as they fade will help to prolong the flowering time. Crown/root rot may develop in poorly drained soils. Watch for rust, powdery mildew and leaf spots. Cut back stems close to ground level from late February through to the end of March.
