Black Currant Jostaberry is a complex-cross fruit bush, involving three species, the black currant, the North American coastal black gooseberry, and the European gooseberry. This Jostaberry has the advantage of being thornless and disease resistant. The nearly black very aromatic berry, which is smaller than a gooseberry and a bit larger than a blackcurrant is very high in vitamin C and can be eaten both raw and cooked.

How to take care of Black Currant Jostaberry

Carefully remove the shrub from its pot and place it in the centre of the hole. If your soil is not acidic enough, grow these fruit bushes in pots or ask your local garden centre for rhododendron potting soil. Position the plants in a sunny spot, sheltered from strong winds. Fruit bushes don't need much, rainwater is often enough, but don't let the soil dry out, especially during flowering and when they are bearing fruit during the season. Apply fertiliser in spring and mulch in winter to protect them from frost. If they are planted in a pot, protect the pot from frost or keep them in a greenhouse if possible. Plants need little pruning for the first three years. On mature plants, cut back old branches that have borne fruit and remove those that are damaged or diseased.
