Camellia Japonica Red 20-30 cm
Camellia Japonica Red 20-30 cm
Camellia Japonica Red is a flowering evergreen shrub that adds elegant structure and rich colour to outdoor spaces, especially in spring when its red blooms stand out beautifully against glossy green leaves.
Location
Place outdoors in a partly sunny spot. It also suits both sun and light shade, where it can be used in borders, containers or as part of a hedge.
Growth habit and size
A neat, evergreen shrub with decorative, glossy foliage and a well-filled habit. Over time it can reach around 1.5–2 m tall and spread to about 125–150 cm.
Plant care
Grow in peaty, well-drained soil to keep the roots comfortable while avoiding waterlogging. Water well after planting so the soil settles nicely around the root ball.
Pruning and maintenance
After flowering, remove yellowing leaves and lightly trim back any unwanted branches to keep the shrub tidy and well-shaped.
Winter hardiness
Hardy down to –15°C. When grown in a pot, give it a more sheltered position to reduce exposure to strong wind, bright sun and frost.

Instructions
Remove the plant from the nursery pot and gently loosen the root ball.
Soak the root ball in a bucket of water for 10–12 hours before planting.
Dig a hole so the root ball sits just below the soil surface.
Mix some potting compost into the planting soil to help hold moisture while still draining well.
Place the plant in the hole with the roots spread out, fill back in, firm the soil and water thoroughly.
After about 4 weeks, add a small handful of organic fertiliser on the soil around the plant.
Remove yellow leaves and trim unwanted branches after flowering.
