Camellia Japonica On Stem 100-120 cm
Camellia Japonica On Stem 100-120 cm
Camellia Japonica On Stem is a classic camellia trained into a small standard tree, valued for its tidy shape, glossy green foliage and rich red blooms in spring.
Location
Place outdoors in a partially sunny spot. In a roomy pot it also makes a smart feature plant for patios and entrances.
Growth habit and size
Trained on a clear stem with a compact, leafy crown for a structured look. Over time it reaches around 125–150 cm in height and develops into its mature form in about 5 years.
Plant care
For best results, grow in peaty, well-drained soil. When planting, loosening the rootball helps the roots settle into the surrounding soil more easily.
Pruning and maintenance
After flowering in May, trim away any unwanted branches to keep the standard shape looking balanced. Remove yellow leaves as they appear.
Winter hardiness
Hardy down to –15°C. Plants grown in pots benefit from some protection from wind, sharp frost and very strong sun.

Instructions
Remove the plant from the nursery pot and gently loosen the rootball so the roots can grow outwards.
Soak the rootball in a bucket of water for 10–12 hours before planting.
Dig a hole so the rootball sits just below soil level.
Mix the garden soil with some potting compost so moisture is held while excess water can drain away.
Place the plant in the hole with the roots spread out, backfill, firm in and water well.
After 4 weeks, scatter a small handful of organic fertiliser on the soil around the plant.
Remove yellow leaves when needed and prune unwanted branches after flowering in May.
If grown in a pot, protect the plant from strong sun, wind and frost.
