Originally found in Japan and China and are now an absolute must in every garden. These woody vines climb rapidly and look best when allowed to climb up an arch, tree or wall. Wisterias produce spectacular cascades of large pendulous raceme flowers. Our pink and white Wisterias are floribundas from Japan (a slightly less vigorous variety but the sinensis Blue Rain Wisteria is a rampant Chinese growing variety.

How to take care of Wisteria sinensis Blue Rain 9 cm

For best results soak the roots for approx 2 hrs before planting and water well after planting and for the next few weeks. Plant the Wisteria out of cold winds, in a sunny, sheltered spots elect a position that has the roots in a shaded spot and the top part of the plant in the sun. Dig a large hole and approx 30cm away from the wall or fence. Incorporate large amounts of organic matter, such as garden compost or manure. Make sure that you only use well-rotted manure and compost, as freshly made can burn the roots of the new plant. Provide some form of support (trellis), tie new shoots loosely to it. In the first few years train all new growth to form a main stem with main branches, later cut back all new growth to about 5-6 buds in mid summer. Prune all side shoots back to 5-6 buds from the previous year's growth in late winter to form new flowering spurs. It will produce its striking flowers in May - June but may take a few years to flower for the first time. Attention: leaves may have dropped off during autumn transport, do not worry new leaves will grow in spring. Please note that parts of this plant are toxic if eaten, especially the seeds. So keep away from young children.
